This is a very timely and important subject. I've been teaching creative activities, especially in music, to young children for almost twenty years. There are lots of ideas and activities on my website, http://www.freewebs.com/teachcreativity. Hope you find it useful!

Hello,
I just accessed your blog from the Teaching Matters website, and found this post to be very much in line with the subject of the masters thesis I am currently working on. I am currently researching issues of trust surrounding the urban middle school art classroom. Specifically I am interesting in the question, "how does the opportunity to create art in a trustful environment influence the at-risk middle school student?" Your thoughts on creativity being the key to true success in the classroom that translates to a successful future is exactly my interest in researching this topic. I would like to talk with you more on this issue, if you would be interested.

My email address is kitzmanuiowa@yahoo.com, let me know if you are interested in discussing this topic further.

Thank you!
Jessica Kitzman

Creativity is using the basic principles of the topic a different way. Teachers must understand how students think, and build from there, focusing on the basic principles. See "Teaching and Helping Students Think and Do Better" on amazon.
