This would be the answer to my prays. What would be the cost for a classroom 12:1:1? Are there any trainings for teachers interested in using this technology.

With the cost coming down, I expect that the next thing we know, Fisher-Price will be marketing an internet-friendly kiddie computer! It’s unrealistic for schools to expect that kids who live in a world filled with technology outside of school will be interested in learning in a classroom void of it.
We are all worried and working to improve reading/thinking skills in our students. With the ability to hand each student a computer, we have the power to transform their educational world by grabbing their attention and focusing it on learning that will open new vistas for them. Teachers need technology training, and would quickly see the advantages of its use. Blogs and podcasts give kids authentic audiences for their writing and thoughts. Webquests and curriculum webs promote higher level thinking and collaboration needed in the working world.
I hope we never develop into an Isaac Asimov world where kids don’t know what a real book looks like and never leave their homes because they learn from a computer there. However, using technology as a tool to motivate kids and help them learn seems like a great idea!

We, educators, should all be aware that it is absolutely imperial that we are doing our students a disservice - if we are not engaging them in technology. I think one of the major problems in this regard is that too many administrators don't "get that picture" and so do not encourage teachers to get the proper PD to become more knowledgeable and skilled in integrating technology in their curriculum.

Too many administrators, I think, leave it up to the teachers and the teachers don't feel comfortable enough - due to a lack of continuous training to make technology an integral part of their curriculum. If staff is cut, many times the first line to be cut is the - lab instructor. In some instances that I'm personally aware of - schools have received grants for new computers - but no in-depth training is available to the entire staff; there's no push to use technology and there's no lab instructor.

We've got to get the administrators to take the lead in this effort!
